So 2020 was pretty rough, I can honestly say I was 'down'... I had a lawsuit arrive on my porch, my dog of 12 years passed away, and I was at the brink of giving up on my marriage. New Years came and I decided that, if I wanted to be happy, I would need to work on myself. So I sat down, wrote the different aspects that I was going to work on this year (personal health, finances, relationships). I was detailed and came up with a number of resolutions and listed them in great detail. THIS is just part of it, being healthy and fit. Well, I am not where I want to be yet but I am on my way.
It is now 2 years later and yes, I went up and down on my weight, but I am as of 3/10/23 135 lbs and just about to reach my goal of being under 10% subcutaneous fat.
What REALLY changed my approach to a healthy lifestyle was PURPOSE. I no longer just want to be 'FIT', I know want to place (podium position) in the races that I participate in.
You should know that it was when I started running consistently that I saw a more profound effect on the definition of my physique. It was when I found the SPARTAN OCR (obstacle course racing) events, that I got really excited about functional training. I switched from working out, to 'TRAINING' for these events. This has transformed my motivation and desire to get even more fit and push my body further than I ever had in my life.
I have since completed a Marathon (the SteamTown Marathon in Scranton, PA) with a time of 3 hrs and 45 min. But this year my goal is to drop that time to
3 hrs and 15 min so I can qualify for the Boston Marathon. Now, the BQ qualifying window closes in September...so if I don't qualify by then I have to wait a whole year before I can make into the marathon.
Sure...there are other ways to make it into the marathon, but I want to qualify. I want to EARN the right to run such an event. So if you are reading this today, you are already taking part of this journey that I have embarked in this year.
This is me today...
at 47 years old, in the best fitness level of my life!
